Bio
Bren Kekoa Bartol (they/them) is an indigenous Canadian-American theatrical designer, performer, and playwright pursuing a BA in Theater and Performance Studies (TAPS) on the Theater Making track at Stanford University. They are a founding member of the Mad Composition Company. They are the former Executive Producer and Technical Director for the Stanford Shakespeare Company, and have assisted projections designer Caite Hevner and scenic designer Nina Ball.
Bren (also called Kekoa or Koa) holds both contemporary and classical training, with additional studies in musical theater and choral singing. They have trained at Stanford University, Seattle’s Unexpected Productions, San Francisco’s BATS Improv, the Atlantic Theater Company in New York City, and studied Shakespeare at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Their work has been seen at the Nitery Experimental Theater (NExT), the Stanford Shakespeare Company, TAPS Developmental Stage, TAPS Mainstage, Inglemoor Valhalla Players and the Stanford Asian American Theater Project and more.
Recent productions include Cry Havoc (Mad Composition Company) Moonchild (TAPS Developmental Stage), Macbeth & A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Stanford Shakespeare Company), waiting for magnapinna (TAPS Developmental Stage), and more.
